Michigan State Real Estate Exam
How much does the Michigan state exam cost?
There are two steps to taking the Michigan State Exam. If you are not already registered with LARA (Licensing And Regulatory Affairs), you need to sign up and pay approximately $89 to be eligible to take the exam. The Michigan real estate exam is proctored through PSI Exams, and costs approximately $79 at the time you schedule your exam.
Do I need to take a class before I take the state exam?
Yes. Michigan requires you to complete a 40-hour pre-licensing course through an approved school before you can sit for the exam. This course is designed to prepare you with the knowledge and confidence you need to pass.
What does the state exam look like?
It’s a multiple-choice exam with national and Michigan-specific questions covering contracts, law, finance, property concepts, brokerage and agency, real estate math, fair housing and more!
What’s a passing score?
You need a score of 70% or higher to pass the Michigan real estate exam. With the right preparation and study strategy, passing on the first attempt is absolutely achievable.

What is LARA and what are PSI exams?
LARA (Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs) is the state agency that oversees real estate licensing. PSI is the third-party company that administers the state exam.

Do I have to pick a broker to be in real estate?
